Stratford’s innovation in the industry allowed the company to gain recognition in the area of motion furniture. Motion furniture became an important segment in the market. The maker of the first reclining chair subject to mass production and mass merchandising, Stratford was honored with the International Home Furnishings Industry Innovator Award. Further, the Stratford was the first reclining chair to receive the prestigious Good Housekeeping Seal. Stratford continued to achieve success in motion furniture, influencing the industry by producing sofas and loveseats with reclining mechanisms as well as recliners and sofa beds smartly styled as stationary furniture.
