Sottsass first saw the Navy chair in the 1950's and fell in love with its utilitarian design. It was a strictly functional piece designed for use in submarines that soon appeared in hospitals and prisons everywhere. But Sottsass elevated the Navy chair from institutional to upper echelon by incorporating it into home designs, even putting several in his Milan home. Soon designers around the world were using Emeco's sleek aluminum chairs.

In 1998, the owner of Emeco met Sottsass and suggested he update the design of the Navy chair and collaboration was born. He and Christopher Redfern, his design partner, worked with Emeco to create a line that includes a swivel armchair, swivel chair, bar stool, counter stool, stacking armchair and stacking chair.

Each is available in brushed or polished aluminum and comes upholstered in Valentine red, apple green, construction orange, sky blue or anthracite gray. In December of 2007, Ettore Sottsass passed away at 90, leaving behind the Nine-0 Collection as tribute to his appreciation for raw industrial design's enduring beauty.

Fabric that is not manufactured by Emeco is not covered by this warranty but governed solely by the guarantees or warranties, if any, of the upholstery manufacturer. This warranty also does not include scratches and chips to a powder coated color finish, scratches and blemishes to a polished finish, scratches, discoloration, and deterioration to ABS (due to harsh cleaners), or floor glide wear. This warranty does not apply to chairs damaged by accident, abuse, neglect, or misuse, nor does it apply if repairs are attempted by purchaser or by anyone other than an authorized Emeco agent or the Emeco factory.
